Yale Community Service Summer Fellowship

2010: Museum of Chinese in America, the Asian American Writers’ Workshop

2009: New York Asian Women’s Center, the Asian American Writers’ Workshop

2008: Korean American Community Foundation, Museum of Chinese in America

In 2008, AAAYA sponsored two summer community service interns; Andrea Sohn, ’11, and Ming Min Hui, ’10. Andrea will be spending her summer at the Korean American Community Foundation (KACF), and Ming Min will be at the Museum of Chinese in the Americas (MoCA). Special thanks to the Yale Club of NYC for housing both interns this summer.

2007: Museum of Chinese in America

During the summer of 2007, AAAYA-NYC hosted its first community service intern, Jerome Wei (DC ’10). Jerry spent 8 weeks interning at The Museum of Chinese in the Americas (MoCA) splitting his time between MoCA’s public programs and development departments. He provided invaluable assistance to researching, planning and implementing its public programs including, a roundtable discussion, “Why so Angry?” which brought together key people in the Asian American community to speak about their experiences responding to pivotal incidents in the community; a conversation with Justin Lin, director of the critically-acclaimed Better Luck Tomorrow; and “Thinking Inside the Box,” a panel on Asian Americans in the comic book and graphic novel world. Nancy Bulalacao, Director of Public Programs, ranked Jerry among one of her best interns ever.

Housing for the AAAYA-NYC Summer Community Service Internship was provided by the Yale Club of New York City, and the stipend for the intern was provided by the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA). Special
thank you to these two organizations for helping us make the first summer internship a success!

If you work for an Asian community organization and would like to host an intern at your office, contact the AAAYA national leadership or a local chapter contact.
