AAAYA NorCal Annual Picnic, Don Ramos Park, Palo Alto, Sat., July 17th
The Northern California Chapter of the Association of Asian American Yale Alumni (AAAYA) would like to invite you to our Annual Picnic — a fun event for alumni of all ages, local Yale Students home for the summer, and members of the Class of 2014. This would be a great opportunity to network with friendly alums, meet old and new friends, and to provide a warm welcome to the pre-frosh (and their parents) before they leave for New Haven. Children, parents and friends of Yalies are not only welcome, but are encouraged to join in the fun.
Event details:
* Potluck Picinic at Don Ramos Park, 800 East Meadow Drive in Palo Alto (map)
* Saturday, July 17th, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
* Bring a hearty appetizer or main dish to share
* We’ll have a volleyball net set up for a spirited game
If you already own folding picnic/camping chairs and/or blankets, please bring them if convenient to supplement the picnic table seating capacity.
Please RSVP now via our eventbrite link http://www.eventbrite.com/event/731684488. If you have any questions, please free to contact Harry Chang (click here to reveal email address).

In Celebration of Co-Education at Yale
Dear Friends,
You may have heard about the recent events in New Haven celebrating 40 years of co-education and 140 years of women at Yale. I am volunteering for a regional celebration of Women at Yale hosted by local NorCal AYA chapters and would like to extend the invitation to you if you have not seen it already.
General information is included below for your reference. For more detailed information, please visit
www.yalesf.org/article.html?aid=269. Attendance is NOT limited to women. Please forward widely to your Yale contacts in the area.
We are also looking for one volunteer to take photos during the event — you do not need to be a professional or have anything more than a digital camera. We just would love help recording the event. The registration fee is waived for the volunteer. Please contact event coordinator Ruth Kwon ’98 if you would like to volunteer
(click here to reveal email address).

AAAYA picked up in 2010 right where it left off in 2009: expanding our reach to more alumni and students through diverse programming. Hundreds of alumni and students have participated in events hosted by local chapters in Northern California, Southern California, Chicago, and New York City. Here are some highlights from the last four months:
On January 21, the Northern California chapter helped bring Marvin Chun, Yale Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Yale’s first Asian American Residential College Master, to lecture for the Yale and Commonwealth Clubs of Silicon Valley. Professor Chun, one of Yale’s most popular lecturers, covered an eclectic range of topics on the human mind, from mind-reading to memory erasure.

Yale is currently hiring 2 Yale College Student Affairs Fellows for a 2-year appointment (starting July 2010). The job is ideal for someone who is 2 or 3 years out of college and would like some experience working with undergraduates (apartment housing on the Old Campus & and a meal plan are also provided). Alumni who have been Freshmen/Ethnic Counselors or have done any kind of counseling/training work with young populations would be excellent candidates.
Go to www.yale.edu/hronline and search for “student affairs fellow” to find the job posting and apply online.
