Thanks to all of the volunteers who came out for AAAYA’s Yale Day of Service events on May 15, 2010! A recap of the day’s events are below. Special thanks to Azan Kung who produced the video of the Los Angeles Day of Service.
Southern California
The 2nd annual Yale Day of Service for Southern California AAAYA took place at the Little Tokyo Childrens Festival. A group of devoted Yalies helped out with the San Tai San – 3 on 3 basketball tournament; those who understood the rules of the game kept score, and those who didn’t cheered for the teams! We also did some P.R. for the new Budokan Recreation Center – an exciting new facility that will transform and revitalize the downtown landscape of Little Tokyo. Laughter, conversation, and friendship made it a perfect day for service. Thanks to all who participated.
AAAYA picked up in 2010 right where it left off in 2009: expanding our reach to more alumni and students through diverse programming. Hundreds of alumni and students have participated in events hosted by local chapters in Northern California, Southern California, Chicago, and New York City. Here are some highlights from the last four months:
On January 21, the Northern California chapter helped bring Marvin Chun, Yale Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Yale’s first Asian American Residential College Master, to lecture for the Yale and Commonwealth Clubs of Silicon Valley. Professor Chun, one of Yale’s most popular lecturers, covered an eclectic range of topics on the human mind, from mind-reading to memory erasure.
Yale is currently hiring 2 Yale College Student Affairs Fellows for a 2-year appointment (starting July 2010). The job is ideal for someone who is 2 or 3 years out of college and would like some experience working with undergraduates (apartment housing on the Old Campus & and a meal plan are also provided). Alumni who have been Freshmen/Ethnic Counselors or have done any kind of counseling/training work with young populations would be excellent candidates.
Go to www.yale.edu/hronline and search for “student affairs fellow” to find the job posting and apply online.
