Let’s kick off May together in celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month!
Join us on Thursday, May 1, 2025, for the annual AAAYA General Assembly, hosted by the AAAYA National Board. This virtual town hall-style gathering marks the beginning of a month-long series of programming celebrating the stories, legacies, and vibrant diversity of our AANHPI communities at Yale and beyond.
AANHPI Heritage Month can be traced back to 1978, when Congress established Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week to honor the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States on May 7, 1843, and the contribution of Chinese immigrant workers to the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. In 1992, this week was officially expanded into a month-long observance.
