AAAYA Co-Hosts Special Night of Chinglish with Yale Club of Orange County
You are cordially invited to join AAAYA Southern California chapter on Saturday February 2, 2013, for a special night of Chinglish, a comedy by award-winning playwright and Yale School of Drama alumnus David Henry Hwang. David will conduct a Q&A session for our group after the show.
David has been honored with numerous awards for his works, including an Obie for FOB and a Tony for M. Butterfly. In Chinglish, an American businessman heads to Asia to score a lucrative contract for his family’s firm—but the deal isn’t the only thing getting lost in translation when he collides with a Communist minister, a bumbling consultant, and a suspiciously sexy bureaucrat. Here’s what some critics have to say about Chinglish:
“Hilarious…This well-made comedy takes a poignant view of the profound isolation and terrible vulnerability of people who are lost without their native language.”—Variety
“One of the funniest plays in memory…” —Chicago Sun Times
“One of the three best plays of the year!”—Time Magazine
